Madurai Rameshwaram Kanyakumari Tour Package

15469For people looking for a holistic yet beautiful holiday there is nothing better than a tour of South India which promises many amazing experiences. People visit the Southern part of the country from all over the world and the state of Kerela is one that has many offerings for the visitors who come here. Some of the most popular places one must visit are Rameshwaram, Kanyakumari and Madurai and these places are famous for both, their exotic beauty as well as the holistic environment that exists here.

Kanyakumari has always been a favourite with tourists as it offers tourists a chance to experience serene and lovely beaches and beautiful temples lying along these beaches. Some monuments that are frequented by visitors daily are the Udayagiri fort, the Vivekananda rock, the Padmanabhapuram Palace as well as the Gandhi memorial. The hotels in the city are very good and some popular options are Maris international among others. A good idea would be to look for hotels that are located next to the beach as they would offer lovely views all around.

Not very far from Kanyakumari lies the city of Madurai in the state of Tamil Nadu which boasts of the world famous Meeenakshi temple. This temple has been built over a large area of around six hectares and features many gateways that have been beautiful carved with small figurines of various deities. This being the most famous spot in the city for tourists you can even plan to visit Rameswaram another famous city if you have spare time on your hands.

Rameswaram is another vibrant city which has a large number of monuments and temples but11_8_2013_15_38_26_6hb9rbub8mpltnugbqkb0k6hc3_eof9amy6 has still managed to retain its simplicity. The people here work as fishermen mostly and this is why the city in spite of being popular with tourists maintains a low key status. The Rameswaram temple features an amazing corridor which stretches almost 200 meters and is a site surely worth seeing.

The best time to visit these places would be at the beginning of the year between January and the month of March as it is very pleasant here during those months. If you want to make things easier for yourself then you would definitely do well to choose a Kanyakumari Madurai Rameswaram tour so you can visit these beautiful cities in a single trip.

My visit to Dwarka and Somnath

somnath-templeThere are many people for whom a vacation becomes meaningful when it offers a meaningful or an enlightening experience and for this reason they don’t like to wander off just about anywhere. For such people it is always better to opt for tours that give them a chance to visit amazing cities such as Dwarka which have been famous for both historical and holistic reasons since many years. Dwarka lies in the state of Gujarat belonging to the district of Junagadh. One of the reasons for which Dwarka has been so famous is because of the presence of the most important of the Jyotirlingas here in Somnath.

The Somnath temple has built by Lord Soma as a way to thank Lord Shiva for removing a curse that had been placed upon him. Daksha had cursed Lord Soma because one of his daughters was married to Soma but was troubled since she did not get any of his attention. Lord Soma had many wives but all his attention and care went towards just one, Rohini. So when Lord Soma got cursed he prayed vigorously to Lord Shiva to remove the curse placed on him and after many Somnath-to-Dwarka-Mapyears Lord Shiva appeared and did so. This particular period of penance undergone by Lord Soma is said to be responsible for the waxing and waning of the moon every month.

After the curse was lifted the Somnath temple was built but it was destroyed many times before it was rebuilt under instructions from Sardar patel and got its present design. It is very easy to reach this temple as it lies very close to the very popular Gir Lion Sanctuary. According to religious texts Somnath is believed to be the place from where Lord Krishna left for heaven. There are many other famous temples in the city of Dwarka as well and one is sure to have a good time visiting these with loved ones so it would be a good idea surely to book a Dwarka Somnath tour.

History of the Somnath Temple – Dwarka – Somnath

sonath-temple-gujaratWhen it comes to the Jyotirlingas then Somnath is considered to be the most important of them all and it lies in the Junagadh district of Gujarat where the river Gomati flows into the Gulf of Kutch. According to Hindu legends the Somnath temple was built by Lord Soma who was the moon lord when Lord Shiva removed a curse from him. The curse was placed by Daksha when his daughters complained that Lord Soma only paid attention to one wife Rohini while ignoring the others. When Lord Soma got to know of the curse he prayed to Lord Shiva from the Earth who finally appeared after years of penance and lifted the curse. According to Hindu texts this is what cause the moon to shift between periods of waning and waxing every month.

Once the curse was lifted Lord Soma built a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva out of pure gold but it got destroyed thereafter. It was rebuilt time and again and would get damaged till the middle of the 19th century when it was rebuilt under the aegis of Sardar Vallab bhai Patel. The modern day Somnath temple as we see it lies along the coastline and this place is believed to be the one where Lord Krishna left for heaven. Veraval lies very close to Somnath and it is another place of religious importance that a lot of people visit as it is very easy to access via road. Another reason for the popularity of Veraval is that the Gir Lion Sanctuary is located only 50 kms from Veraval.

In the olden days Somnath was also called Prabhas Kshetra and has been considered an important place to travel ever since. There are five very famous Shivalingams which lie along the coast on which Somnath temple lies. Three of them are situated very close to the temple and the amazing thing is that during high tide they disappear under water and appear again when the tide is low. So if you are looking for a once in a lifetime religious experience then you must surely plan a trip to see Dwarka and the famous Somnath temple.
